I dont really have a point to this thread I just thought it was interesting that the latest bass player magazine reviewed an 83 L2K just like mine in the retro-rama column by Dave Pomeroy.

The only difference between the basses is that the one in the article was a series E with paddle headstock and mine has the new (at the time) eye-gouger style. As far as I can tell, I think the E series and non-E were in production concurrently for a short time in 83. Anyone know for sure? Anyone know when the pointy headstocks were introduced?

Nice! Chef, any idea when the eye gouger headstock was introduced? I thought E series L2000s were around until 84 with the paddle style headstock and that there were no E series with the pointy headstocks. Could be wrong on all of that...

According to the authority on all things G&L, http://www.ggjaguar.com/l-2000.htm
the pointy headstock appeared in '82. That also matches with the empirical data I have from 2 friends with 82-83 L-2000s that both have the pointy hs.

I *think* the headstock changed in '83, and that there were E series for that year..
I'm prolly wrong tho.

Nice basses as usual Chef! BTW did you see the retro rama column in the new bass player mag? Has a black '83 L2000 just like the one at the top ^ I knew they were going to do a G&L soon.

Hi Guys, Dave Pomeroy here. According to the research I did via serial numbers, the change happened after that bass was made in 1983. i have a pair of '86's (fretted and fretless) that I love, but I wanted to write about my friend Nigel's as it is older with the straight headstock. They are great axes.

I've gotta check my basses and serial numbers, but it seems like of the many I have laying around, I have one 83 that is, and one that isn't...
But, I'd have to go do some digging.

Hey Dave! Thanks for stopping in...

Hi Dave thanks for stopping by! I really dig the retro-rama articles keep it up! Is the fretless 86 you are talking about the white/cream one you are playing on the bass day '97 video? That is the first time a G&L ever caught my eye. Fantastic playing btw.
