Question SB-2, ASAT or L-2000?

Hi all,
I'm interested in these three models but I really don't have an opportunity to get out and play one. Can anyone compare/contrast the three?
Thanks,
Nick

The ASAT and L-2000 have the same electronics. But different neck and body. So I guess they sound the same, but play different.

The SB-2 has very different electronics. One split pup and one single coil as opposed to two humbuckers. Only passive and only two volume controls as opposed to the 6 controls on the ASAT/L2000. It's also the only G&L bass with a pickguard.

I have never played a G&L bass, so this could be wrong at some points and it probably isn't a complete answer. But I wanted to help.

The 2k/ASAT have same electronics and other than the shape are the same beast. If you want the most versatile bass get one. I was jamming to the mp3 player last night and everything I picked to listen to I could dial in a similar sound from the 2K.

The SB-2 is simplicity at its best. If you always leave the treble cranked up on a P you would love an SB-2. Both the SB-2 and ASAT have 1.5 nuts wher a stock 2K has a 1.75.

The SB-2 bridge pickup adds some cut through to the sound when rolled in but alone is very thin.

Do what I did: get all 3!

My thoughts:

SB-2-- an honest bass that will never let you down no matter the gig. Thin, fast J-taper neck

L2K-- there is a tone in there that not only mimmicks the bass sound that you're trying to get, but also bumps it up a couple of notches. Big neck, comfortable body.

ASAT-- same tones as the L2K, different feel. The ASAT body is essentially a butcher's block with pickups. I've grown very fond of it. The neck isn't the wide plank that the L2K is but it isn't the SB-2's thin J-copy either. I liken it to a Stingray thickness with Jazz width. In other words, perfect.
