SB1 Neck ?

Sign in to disble this ad
What is the standard neck on an SB1 ?

This question is not answered in the sticky FAQ and the answer is probably buried in some thread. From what I have read it is more of a P neck, 1 3/4" at the nut ?

Gassin for an SB2 which has the #8 neck, need to know about the SB1 (P necks ain't my thing ..)

SB-1's are usually 1 3/4 necks #7 12" radius. The SB-2 is a jazz 1 1/2 #8 neck with the addition of the J bridge PU.

Standard SB-1 neck was a #7, with a few #5's floating around. Never seen one with a 6 or 8 neck, and would likely have been a custom order, and a rare bird indeed.

The #6 was standard on the SB-2 for years, same on the ASAT.

I don't know when G&L went to the 1 3/4 width on the #7 and #5 but for up until at least '93 the wider necks were 1 11/16. My ancient SB-1 is like that.

Haven't laid my hands on a later generation SB-1 but Templar has.
