Even brand new, the Tribbys are quite the bargain IMHO. The first generation was great...the second generation surprised the stew out of me with attention to detail. Okay, I confess...I do like the new headstock decal...and the bridge imprint (and I never considered myself that sort, lol!).

Have been monitoring this thread and agree with just about everything written.

I have a USA L-2000 (#8 neck), a USA SB-2, and one of the new Tribute SB-2's. They are all excellent basses and provide a great bang for the buck.
The l-2000 is the most comfortable bass I have ever had, but for what I am playing out now (rock cover band) the SB-2 is the weapon of choice. I prefer the USA SB-2 over the Tribute mainly because of the specific tone it has (Ash body and Ebony fretboard) and because of the way it feels.
But the neck on my L-2000 is the best. The USA SB-2 neck feels a bit beefier, but all measurements show the 2 to be dimensionally the same.
Both of my SB-2's have the tone pot mod. IMO, this somewhat tames the beast and opens up a wider range of tone. But the beast is still there and they can still produce the sweetest grind if desired.

The L-2000 stays for sure (famous last words), the USA SB-2 could be replaced by another if I ever happen to find one that feels and plays better.
