Question Screw Length

Sign in to disble this ad
Would anyone happen to know the length of the bridge saddle screws for a G&L Tribute L2500 Premium?

I'm currently in the process of talking to Chris from G&L in an attempt to fully "fix" the intonation on my bass. However, he would like to know the length of the bridge saddle screws; and I'm not exactly too comfortable at the moment with dismantling my bridge to measure the screws. So, if anyone has the measurements already and could post them, I would greatly appreciate it!

What intonation issues are you having? To fix the intonation on my L2500 Tribute I had to fully remove the B and E string screws and file the shorter, but it worked. It's really a "no big deal" operation.

Here's the thread where I discussed it: Can't move your bridge saddles back far enough? File the screws down!

G&L uses different length intonation screws that start short on the lowest string and get progressively longer. In most cases they work fine but now and then you get a set of strings or just a particular bass that intonates a little funny and you need to use longer or shorter screws somewhere. I had an ASAT bass that needed longer screws on the A and D strings. What you should ask Chris to do is send you a few screws of each length and you should be able to solve your problem. That's what they did for me, though that was 7 years ago.

Thanks for the info, flash99. But, before they send me replacement screws, Chris would still like to know the length of my screws.

So, if there are no standard screw lengths for G&L basses, is it possible for me to measure the length without dismantling the the bridge/saddle? I wouldn't mind even taking out the screws to measure them if it were possible to keep my current intonation settings in the process.

Any ideas?

My A, E, and B strings are sharp when using the open note/harmonics/fretted note technique. Especially on the B string, when checking the intonation, the fretted note on the twelfth is in between a "B" note and a "C." And although I have pulled the bridge saddle all the way back, it still is extremely sharp.

As for filing down the screws...thanks for the suggestion, but I'd rather just replace them instead of tinkering with filing them down.

Be sure to crank down the saddle lock screw good and tight. That should hole the saddles in place and remove a screw, measure, put it back in, rinse and repeat 4 more times.

You may find on it a better length for the string in question. I had to swap the G and I think the D on my 1K to get the G intonated proper.

Great idea, using the saddle lack to lock the saddles in place.

One thing to add - loosen the strings before you take out the screws. Tight strings will make a nightmare out of what should be a relatively simple operation.

You would be surprised how many folks have no clue about the saddle lock.

Seriously, I appreciate the reminder. I'm the guy who would remove the saddle screws and cuss like a pirate when the saddles didn't just fall off.
