I bought an ASAT last year after always wanting one, then had to sell it due to financial hardship. The stars recently aligned and I was able to purchase a used one recently. The odd thing is, it is better than the previous one that I purchased new. I think the one I bought new was NOS, as it had a 3 bolt neck. My newly acquired ASAT has 6 bolts, birdseye fretboard, and a more transparent finish that is less yellow and reall shows off the ash grain.

What neck profile does L-1000 have? Could you please compare it to Precision and Jazz necks.

Which strap button do you prefer using? I'm guessing that having to strap buttons is to help balance the bass and keeping it from having neck dive?

I always use the top one. I do not have any issues with neck dive, my ASAT balances extremely well.

Picture Day at Chez Tookay...

Been a steady parade of basses in and out the door lately, so I thought a posterity shot was in order...

from top to bottom-
The Crown Royal Tiger /97 Tookay
The BoomSnake /96 Tookay Toofless
The Toro twins- The BBB and Rocky, both 84's

Absent/ camera-shy ( out on tour with a friend ) The Sea Hag / 82 Wunkay.

And yes, all the G&L's have/ had names....there was Shelley, The Hatchet, Marilyn, The Golden Bear, PigPen, Bart, etc....

........anybody got a cord?

Mike, I think the strings on the Sterling are the new Ernie Ball Slinky Coated. The 'Snake is wearing Fender tapewounds in this shot, but is currently strung with DR SunBeams. The neck on this thing is scary thin around the back, and does it growl! Mwah Central. Wired for OMG/ single coil/ parallel, too. I believe this is the only black swirl fretless Tookay in existance.

Arrow 2 old school lefties

Just got the 1K today - now I get what everyone is talking about! OMG is right - earth shattering tone. It's an '81 mahogany/ebony fretless. Had the '83 SB2 for a little while - really great feel. Can't decide which I like better. Bought both from TBers - thanks Matt and Rick.

Here's my 1985 G&L SB-1 I recieved on monday. I gotta take better pictures some day.
It's my first bass after 4 years of on/off guitar playing. Never really felt home with guitar.
I haven't been able to lay my hands off of the G&L. It's amazing

The Sea-Hag

This one spent many years of working 6 nights a week in the roughest houses in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
