What's up with my L2000E?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just scooped this one up over the weekend and I am loving it! (Goodbye P-bass!) Based on the bridge serial # and headstock, I believe it to be a 1981 model. The body sculpt looks unlike any other L2000 I've seen, though - slightly narrower horns and less of a Fendery look. Anyone else encountered that? I wondered if it might not be original, but the hardware and pickup fit is perfect.

A few other details: the neck pickup is closer to the neck, more like on a MM Sabre than the regular L2000. The back contour is pretty shallow, not nearly as deep as normal. The neck plate has a hole for the micro-tilt adjustment but there's only more yellow paint showing through it. Was it not a standard feature? And there's that color... I haven't seen it on any other G&L bass from that era, though I suppose it could be a custom job.

Any thoughts? Seen anything similar? Recognize that body style? Just what have I gotten myself into? Aside from a delightful new bass and tons of tone, that is.

I don't have a PhD in G&Logy, but that body doesn't look right to me either. It looks really out of balance. The lack of microtilt seems to be the biggest give away that it's not just a modified G&L body, but a wholly different body.

How does it play and sound?

Cheers,
Chris

I vote it is a replacement body someone made. Those days I don't believe tweety bird yellow was a color.

Unbolt the neck from the body, and see for your self. If the neck/body isn't GL then it wount have the GL logo stamped there along with the manufacture date. The logo and date sould exist on both the body and the neck.

My 4pdt mini-toggle switch finally came in and I did the single inner coils/parallel/single outer coils mod. I never really used series - too muffled. The differences between each setting are fairly subtle, but each is useful and now I have three two-pup coil settings I like to use, in addition to soloing.

Just thought I would share.

Here's mine, which might be getting a new neck because the truss rod apparently doesn't work. Hope it works out, because I love the tone.

This is my Tribute.
I want to go American but why? This one so great. The only difference I have found is that the neck on the American is more "warn" in.

I honestly have no reason to buy another 4 string. That is bad because I wasn't expecting this bass to be so good. When I bought it. I wanted to keep it for a few months then sell and buy something better.

That is not a guitar..........its just dust on my camera lens
