Slotted pole pieces...where found ?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've searched for some info on the slotted pole pieces and found some general but nothing specific. I know they were used on early G&Ls, but I have an original L1000 that I bought in 1981 and it has hex core pole pieces. Were the slotted pieces used randomly or for only a short production run ? Any info is appreciated.

G&L geeks correct me if I am wrong - I believe slots were the first pole piece type used in the early 80s. I think those were switched to a large hex style then shortly after that a small hex which are similar to what is used currently. I dont think slots were used randomly though. The changes to the pole pieces were made in the first few years of production. I have an 83-84 L2K with small hex poles.

Interesting. My MFD definitely has the larger hex (as compared to smaller hex on my 2006 L2K). And it is definitely all original, as purchased new sometime around Oct. 1981. Anyone else out there with large hex pole pieces from '80/'81 ? Thanks metron.

Thanks Jim I had the order mixed up. Were large hex on pre production or were the earliest ones a mix of large hex and slot? Seems like most of the 1980 ones I see have slots.

Does anyone profess to hear a difference in tone among the pole types?
