String output difference

Sign in to disble this ad
On my newly acquired (bought used, same strings) Tribute L-2000, the two thinner strings seem to have a clearer sound than thhe other two. I'm soloing the neck pickup in series, and the thinner strings are giving off a nice precision sound, but the other two sound a bit more....less clear.

What might be the causes?

No, I tuned it right before I noticed the problem.

Right, but if I understand stringed instruments correctly, there's tuning and there's intonation which has to do with the length of the string. I understand that sometimes you have to set intonation with every new set of strings. Then again, I may be wrong, but it sounds more like an intonation problem to me rather than a tuning one.

Turn your bass control down to 1/2. You are welcome.

I've intonated everything.

Maybe I should rephrase. The D & G strings have enough treble, the E & A, not enough.

And this playing both unplugged and plugged.

Edit/Update: And from what the guy tells me, they're Ernie Ball strings, though I don't know what kind.

Why not adjust the pole pieces?

If they sound non trebly playing acoustically they are most likely dead strings.

The guy may have never played the D and G strings so they are in better shape.

Change your strings.
