I am an old fan of Chromes and switch to them every time I buy a bass. The local store did not have any and on their advice I got Ernie Ball flats. They are not bad but they wouldn't fit through the body. I am not a big fan of overtones from rounds, thus the Chromes. However, the Chromes have the string wrapped around the end also so they won't fit through the body either. I am thinking of TI jazz rounds. Just curious as to what the folks use who don't like standard rounds either.
I am starting to fall in love with this bass I got to make a profit on!!

You can do a quick search in the string forum and read about the TI flats until you go cross-eyed. I have a fretless 2500 that they work very well on. They are not quite as bright as chromes but very close yet they have a bit more "mwah" than chromes but not nearly as much as rounds. Far less tension than any other flat and very smooth to the touch. They also have that nice flat-wound thump that just does not exist with a round-wound.
Good luck . . . .

The only thing weird about TIs are they seem floppy out of the package.... If I get them, I will purchase online to save a few bucks! The good news is we don't change 'em often!!
I didn't even think of the string threads as I wanted to hear from the G&L owners....I will go do some reading.

| Yes, and on your bass, the TIs feel much more loose than chromes. I tried chromes on a 2500 and they sounded pretty good, but the high tension makes my fingers hurt after 4-5 hours of playing. TI's don't bother me a bit.
You may have to raise your action a touch to accommodate for the floppiness. Quote: |

| TIs last a long time. |

One: Without removing any of the colored thread winding at the top of the strings, the G, D & A strings go through the body with room to spare. The E and B, however, have to go through the bridge.
I had a MusicMan for years that was bridge only so I don't get uptight about it.
Two: You might have to wallow out the slot on the nut for the B string just a bit because the B is quite fat.
I love this bass and I love this bass with these strings.

I thought maybe string through body would give more sustain. Just a guess tho......
I am also thinking of the TI Jazz rounds as they are much thinner overall. The 130 EB flat I have on now looks like it could support a bridge, I can]t imagine what a 136 from the TI flats looks like!

He said that they were even more flexible than the jazz flats. Also, their string prices on the web are competitive with anybody. That's were I got my flats. It was nice to learn that they are great in person as well.
