Tarnishing bridge and saddles

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an L2K that is about 2 years old and the bridge has recently began to look like it's tarnishing. the saddles have looked that way for the past year or so. I wipe it down after i play it everytime...I also have an L2K that is about 3 years old and it does not have the same problem, the bridge and saddles still look like new. Has anyone else had the same issue and does anyone have any recommendations as to what i can safely polish it with?

i'll try to get some pics up later.

thanks

I have a little of the same problem under the saddles but not anywhere else--at least not yet. Doesn't seem to be getting worse. Cleaning does no good, but I've never tired anything harsh. I did try a Tarn-X and it made no difference.

I would suspect G&L repair might have some suggestions for what you could use to safely clean it. I'd avoid any chemicals as long as it's attached to the bass, because one slip and you might take some finish off.

It does seem odd. My oldest with a chrome bridge is a mid-90s sb-2 and although the saddles look a little dull (and maybe show a slight amount of tarnish) the bulk of the bridge shines like a diamond.

Faulty chrome job, maybe? If so, I wonder if this is something G&L would consider replacing under warranty. Maybe not, since it's just cosmetic, but it might be worth a try (assuming you're the original owner, of course).
