| At this point, I have played just about every G&L model...and have owned 5 L-5000s through the years, with two still here.
To me, it sounds most like the SB-1 second generation.
It is real beefy and fat, like most MFD equipped basses, with plenty of clarity. Definitely not muddy. Loads of low end, with bell like clarity, if you want it.
I also love the volume tone simplicity of the controls.
I have used an L-5000 for everything from Country to Blues to Irish rock to Reggae !
It shines in every setting, and cuts through the mix well, no matter the circumstances.
It is also hum canceling, and great for problem situations live or in the studio.
The only drawback that I found is that the spacing is slightly tighter than the common fiver, and it doesn't lend itself well to aggressive styles like slapping or popping, though it can be done.
On the upside, it is like a jazz neck five string. You can move around a little quicker, with less effort, which far outweighs it being more difficult to slap.
I am working on sound bites, and will be sure to add the L-5000 to the list ! |
