Tribute L2000

Is it just me, or is the sound on the upper strings really twangy? I went in and tried both the Tribute L2500 and the American Deluxe L2000 (I'm looking for a Tribute L2000) and the upper register was kinda twangy. I spent almost half an hour fiddling with the various switches and tone knobs, but left disappointed. Is this just me, being used to playing a p-bass? I'm trying to find a bass that can do everything, but the key bit is I want it to be able to GROWL (like a p-bass or j-bass). Seems to me that the L2000 is not what I'm looking for. Does anyone have input on this? I love the bass, just not sure if I can change the upper register.
