Tribute Switch Position Query

Sign in to disble this ad
Quick question; I have a new Tribute, love it, and it is only the Series-Parallel issue that is a bit confusing; am I correct that when the middle switch is pulled toward the player (up) it is in the Parallel position? It sounds louder & with more presence in this position, though I've heard that the "series" position--away and down--is a bass boost. Any confirmations? Thanks! I've been playing both pups on, active w/no boost, and switch up toward me.

Series will have more presence and more noise. Parallel will sound a bit thinner and have less noise. On the US models they go toward the bridge or nut so can't help you there.

I'm pretty sure that you are correct. The middle switch in the "up" position is parralel. I also have a L2000 Tribute and mine sounds just like you described. The way I understand it, parralel is louder than series but series will give you more bottom end. Glad to hear you are happy with your new bass. It's nice to know that a lot of money doesn't have to be spent to get a great instrument. I'm sure liking mine.

The switches perform the same functions on Tribbys and USA.

Series is a lot louder and heavier on the low end. The Tribby may go up or down for this but you should hear a significant difference.

Thanks Bluebear; it is a fun bass. As was the case with many of my generation I grew up on some horrible relics (Hagstrom, Crown, Kalamazoo, Kay, et al) and appreciate the versatility younger practioners of these newer-type instruments take for granted today.

now I'm not sure....

On the G&L site they show series as being forward (bass boost) and parallel as back (bass cut). If this translates to up and down on the tribute it looks like up may in fact be series. In that position mine has a lot more bass. It's also louder, so I think I was wrong in my previous post. I should have waited to post when I got home rather than rely on memory. Sorry 'bout that. Maybe someone in the know will clear this up.

Yes, this makes it all clear; series is "up" and louder w/more bass. I justgigged with it in active, no treble, series. Sounded great! Thanks again! Dave.

Which pickup combo? Series and active is whipping out the big guns. Any survivors?

I used both pups at first, had to pad the DI with a -20db but then went to neck pup, passive for rich evening ending motown stuff. All sounded great. Dave.

I'm not sure the switches are always oriented correctly, especially if it's a used one. I borrowed an L2500 that seemed to work in reverse of my L2000.

There is no 100% with used basses. Someone may have tweaked it. However all the functions should be the same. The Tribby's usually are oriented to go up and down where USA are forward/backward.

Jim
