Trussrod question

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked up a used L1000. It is from 1984. I have a question about the trussrod's used in these basses. Do G&L's use hex adjusted trussrods, similar to those in Fenders? Because it looks like my bolt is completely stripped, and if so I'll need to have it cut and get a new one threaded on.

A picture for reference:

Thanks!

They do use a bullet trussrod nut ala Fender, and that does indeed looked stripped.
If it were me, I'd buy a left handed easy-out for the size of the remaining hole, and remove the stripped nut, call G&L and get a new one.

Looks to me that there is no bullet there.....
Also looks like there is no rod in there......

Someone may have over adjusted and broke the rod with the bullet....

I don't know without looking at it myself, but it looks like you have to repair a truss rod.

I assume the adjusting hex is not at the other end like on some Fenders, right? My guess is not because they usually cover it on the headstock in that case.

The bullet usually is sticking out of the end...

Hmm...is that by chance the L-1000 that was at the Cherry Hill, NJ Guitar Center yesterday? If so, you beat me by about a minute! Whether it's that one or not, good luck with it. I'd love to pick up an L-1000 one of these days.

The truss adjustment on all G&L's is at the top.

I've been looking for pics, and I don't have anything all that great, but you can see the adjuster bullet poking out here:
