WHAT B STRING?

Sign in to disble this ad
I put some D'ad XL170's on my US L2500. The B string was too short to go thru body so I strung it over bridge, fine, no biggee. I just got some D'ad Chromes, Super Longs, the B string is a .132, pulled it thru body, the cloth at ball end got snagged in the body eyelet(?) on back, would not pull thru, did not want to force it, so again all other strings thru body, again the B string over bridge. That .132 is one fat string, had to lower the bridge saddle to have it lay lower than the other strings, still trying to set intonation on it. Will I need to buy a seperate B for each set of D'adarrios? Just put DR sunbeams, nickel on my 55-02. Nice strings, thru body, nice feel and tone. So maybe no more Dadarrios for my G&L. What other flats will work on the L2500?

Thanks Chef, BUT...

It says right on thier ad that these strings are not recommended for stringing thru body. Ive read on TB that some folks have had the winding break when stringing flats thru body, down at the bridge end. When the strings, flats, break thru body they may become unraveled at that point. Ive used flats, both time Chromes, on 2 basses thru body, never had it happen but I guess it apparently can. I can live with the current Chromes for awhile, Ive already trimmed them to size so they will stay on for a good while, I change flats off my basses very infrequently once they are on. I was just concerned about that fatazz .132 B string, its a friggin cable this string, lol. Maybe I'll just get a single Chrome B, .128 or .125, we'll see.

These aren't flats, but since you asked about the Daddario XL170's you'll need to get the superlongs if you want to string through the body.

yep cb56...

I really liked the XL170's when I put em on my L25K. Then I got those Sunbeams for my 55-02, really like those strings. So for now the flats will stay on the L25K indefinitely, tried it at practice the other nite and that ".132 B cable" is def a thumper, can you say wump, wump for a low C, lol, its like a friggin kick drum. Just started a new blues project and I wanted my L25K to get more thumpy for that gig. But now I would maybe wanna try the XL170's on the -02, not sure, again really liking the Sunbeams. But I'll know now to get the super long XL's if I do try em, esp with the 35" scale of the -02. For now Im set with new strings for my basses...but y'all know how that goes. Peace.

Good plan. The EXL170-5SL set will also fit you Lakie like a glove. I use them on both my L2500s and my DJ5.
