US G&L 4 stringers can all be ordered with 1 of 4 different necks, 2 of them are Pbass sized with a different radius. The G&L Pbass neck is a pretty big hunk-o-wood. The L2000 comes standard with the big neck.

From what I've heard, yes. I've only played an american model and it had a HUGE neck. I ordered mine with a jazz sized neck (stubby little fingers). The standard G&L L2000 is equivilant to the largest Pnecks of the past.

AFAIK the now discontinued L-5500 has the thickest neck of all.

The L2K Tribs have a nice P Bass neck on them. I was instantly at home. Good cheap way to scope out a G&L.

Is the #5 neck the fat wide one? Check out the bass neck options on the G&L webpage. The smaller radius necks are the fat ones. Im pretty sure anyway...

The Tribute L2000 has a very fat neck, yes. I would strongly reccomend you to try a Tribute out. They are awesome basses for the money!

Out of my 3 G&L's, the SB-1's neck is fattest from front to back and roundest. The L-1000 and trib L-2000 are wide but not as fat.

The #5 neck is 1 3/4" at the nut and has a old school 7 1/2" radius. The #7 is also 1 3/4" at the nut but has a modern 12" radius.

My American2500 has a very thick neck. I was sort of put off by it at first, but it forces you to have good technique in how you position you hands. I don't know if this is the standard neck, or if it is one of several, but it does the job quite well.

My L2500 Trib has a thick neck which feels great! My USA SB-2 has the #7 neck, so it's wide at the nut (1 3/4"), but it's fairly thin front to back. It also feels nice. Necks don't seem to matter much to me as long as it's not extremely thin (like a Pedulla) or extremely thick (like some Warwicks). I have small hands, and used to go for thinner necks, but I've noticed it causes cramping more quickly at the bass of my thumb. The thicker necks feel much better to me. I don't goose the neck at all though, having come from a classical guitar background where my thumb stays on the back of the neck. I can see how guys with a less formal technique would appreciate the thinner necks. I sometimes catch myself choking the neck on some Jazz basses.

Bingo. The fat neck forces your hand to conform to a proper technical position which, in turn, creates a better sound.

Dead on, John. Conversely, the Jazz necks seem to promote bad technique, at least for me. But it went way beyond just getting a good sound or facilitating speed. As I choked the neck on my jazz basses, I wound up using the grip of my hand on the neck to support some of the weight in my arm. This of course would cause the neck to dive, so I found myself proping the forearm of my fretting hand up on the bass to keep the body steady. At that point it was a vicious cycle for me. Now the bass was much heavier over my shoulder from all the added weight of my arms resting on it. Also, with my forearm up so high on the bass, I increased the bend angle of my wrist which lead to discomfort on longer sessions. It took me a while to figure out what was going on until it dawned on me that I had none of these issues on my wider/thicker 5 string basses.

I've had a Tribute L-2500 which is now moving on. The neck on that one was too big for my little chumpy fingers, so I've been fortunate enough to swap with a L-2000 which is smaller if only for the fact that it has 4 strings. Other than that I've been mightily impressed by this bass. Very piano-like on the deeper strings.

I'm with you guys, I love my L2K neck after coming from a jazz neck. I find it more natural to play with a proper hand position. I was wrapping my thumb too far around the jazz, and I don't have particularly large hands. More average I'd guess.
