| | | Why do some necks have a dot on the 21st fret and some don't?

Is there any rhyme or reason to this? I'm only talking about Tributes, I don't know what the USA models are like. My Korean L-2000 has one, and so does each Indonesian model shown on the G&L website, but I've seen pics of Tributes with no dot on the 21st fret.
It's hardly a major issue, but I'm just curious as to what the reason is. |

but it would have if it had them, if you see what I mean. There is a side-dot at the 21st fret. |

| | | | The pics are great and all, but does anyone know why some have them and some don't? I have three L-2000 Tributes all with dots at the 21st fret, and an SB-2 Tribute without one. |

| | Registered User | | | | Strange. I have an L2500 that HAS the 21st dot and it's a good thing it does cause as soon as I pass that 19th fret I get really lost
Would love to know the answer to this mystery...

The factory was (is ?) delightfully based on hand-crafting the instruments so I would guess there is going to be some variation according to the whim of whoever drilled the fingerboard blank or whichever jig was used that day.
For what it is worth, I think the fingerboard looks better without the final dot, but I could not have told which of my basses had which until this topic was raised. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
