Why I LOVE my G&L

Sign in to disble this ad
My L2500 just sounds so friggin ALIVE. Even unplugged, it has great acoustics. I can just sit on the couch and play away on it and hear every note perfectly.
I went to CG today to try out some fretless basses, and would up trying a few others, and they just sounded dead unplugged, couldn't hear anything but the sound of the strings touching the frets.
If I only had the money for a Fretless L2500, I'd be in heaven...

Close . . . but it's a single pickup config model L-1505

I tried out a Tribute SB-2 today and HOLD THE PHONE this was a really nice instrument. I was very impressed with the workmanship and the tone (same pickups as the US model).

I was just looking at the 1505 on the G&L site.

I like... big time.

and I think I might like this one better in a fretless version, because I never really use the Neck pup in the 2500 by itself. I only use the 2 together or the bridge alone. But sometimes I feel the bridge pup it too bright.
the pup on the 1505 looks to be located a tad bit further away from the bridge than in the 2500, more like the Stingray (which I have a 4-string) and it sounds great.
Gotta play one and see.

If you look around, a used L-2500 fretless can be had for a lot less than you may think. I nabbed this one at the local GC for stupid low $. The preamp was not working and they told me they were unable to fix it, so I made an offer, changed the IC(the only really likely part to fail in the preamp) and it is perfect. While that doesn't inspire great faith in the GC repair department, it made for a good deal.

I too, like Jimtoonz, got a stupid good deal on a used fretless L-2500 and I love it.
