The Tribute was gorgeous natural ash, satin maple fb, excellent neck, glassy finish. The ONLY time anyone remarked on it was when some redneck at a dance hall asked if it was a Peavey .
If I could have gotten the P sound out of it, I'd still have it.

Remove the sticker or cover it with a G&L logo sticker.
Think about it -- when you see a bass player who's kicking ass, nobody cares what they're playing; those that suck, well -- doesn't matter where the bass is made, it still sucks.
just a thought...

EG | +1 I can Suck on the finest of gear. Anyone can sound bad on a Rogue though a blown Harke, I can make a Sadowsky wish it was never born!

-Mark | I'll have to ask Mark, but I believe it was just luck of the draw bought off the rack at a dealer.
I don't think flamed necks are an option but since they are maple it can happen.

Hmmm Any opinions welcome. | It sounds like the differences between Tribute and MIA are pretty minor, maybe a bit of improvement in tone, construction, electronics, and finishes. The big one seems to be price... As far as playing live, as others have said no one will know, most could care less, and would you want to take a guess at the ratio of Fenders played live that are made outside the US vs. MIA? Just using Fender as an example as most the Ibanez's etc. I see at my local shops are made in China.
Of course, there are reasons to buy MIA G&Ls. For me it was a combination of factors including supporting traditional craftsmanship and reacting against outsourcing, whether it be by US companies, Japanese, German, whatever. Having said that I can appreciate that G&L gives customers a choice.

These two basses are hard to compare, but at Saturday's gig on an outdoor bandshell at a golf course, I used the L1K for the first two sets and then switched to the L-2500. I thought the Tribby had more clarity and a more even frequency response (neck pickup, parallel, preamp).
The first few minutes of trying the L-2500 bass at home left me thinking I was nuts for moving away from the L1K, but as soon as I plugged in at the gig, I knew it was a good choice and should serve me well. Quite a different sound and feel...more modern sounding and a chunkier neck on the L-2500. |
