$120 for a cabinet cover? Please!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I am not normally one to whine about the prices of anything. I figure that if you're selling it, charge what you think people will pay. But, (and there's always a "but") I just bought a really nice set of Aguilar 112 cabinets, and I thought a set of covers would be nice.

They want $119 plus tax and shipping for these things. That's rediculous. There are not that big. There's no way they have more than 10 bucks in materials in them, and I'm guessing an experienced operator could stitch them up in less than 10 minutes.

I don't get it.

I hear you there. Just ordered some Epifani covers from: Tukicovers.com.
It's a little relief but they still aren't cheap.

Dang, apparently not just ANYBODY can sew straight lines / rectangular forms these days. nevermind machines programmed to do it repeatedly.

That is ridiculous.

Better protection, way cheaper, fits just about any piece of gear:

Just spring for some bungee cords and you're good-to-go.

They are expensive, but they are GOOD covers. Mind you, I only had to buy one DB212 cover.

Many of the companies are small mom/pop businesses that still build them by hand. It's pretty hard to sew through that nylon with a regular sewing machine, especially if it's quilted or padded, so they have special machinery for it. I had my wife try to mod a thin nylon GK cover and she got through it with her Singer, and she bent a few needles and she was cussing up a storm.
When covers start getting to be 25% of the cost of the cab it is protecting, just use a blanket...

+1 on the link. I have been to that site before. Ampeg 810 padded covers are still under $100....which is a lot better than a 110 for $120....Oh well, live and learn.....

FWIW, the 'OEM' Aguilar covers are actually manufactured by Tuki. A tag on the interior says so. I guess that's a good upcharge for the silkscreened logo.

Their rack bags are standard Pro-Tec ones, too.

Most OEM covers are made by either Tukin or LeCover. Both are great, are very high quality, and are expensive. Worth every penny if you gig a lot.

I couldn't agree more. This is one of those things where it's tough to cough up the dough, but once you do, you won't regret it. IME the Aggie covers are of amazing quality. My only beef with them is that they're snug...I'll save the porn star/condom reference for later. (Wait, was that my outside voice?) However, when I sold my Aggie cabs, I kept the covers....which work great on my Bergantino cabs.

Anyway, I'll just reiterate that these covers are very impressive. I thought the Epifani-branded ones for my UL cabs were nice until I saw these....there's a huge difference. BTW - consider getting a price quote from your local Aguilar dealer. Might save a few bucks.

I've used Lecover for all my cabs, great quality and great guy. If you look at in terms of a upholstery job or taking a hit on resale because your cabs are beat to hell they are well worth it.They have kept my stuff looking new for years, the covers are beat up but still holding there own.

Tukicovers are really nice, heavy duty and well made. I figure my OBC115 is worth a good cover. Cheap covers just aren't worth the savings.

It seems that since they are the OEM for Aguilar, you can't otherwise buy those covers from Tuki. If you go to the Tuki site, they direct you to the Aguilar website and their store.

You can buy them direct from Aggie for $99 each. I guess that's a deal.

While the covers are indeed expensive they're much cheaper than a re-tolex job would be.

You can give Cindy a call at CustomAmpCovers.

http://store.amplifiercovers.com/aguilar.html

I've had numerous covers made from them. Even my Printer/Scanner/Copier and my wife's sewing machine are covered!

We have been looking into covers and I can guarantee that for a quality USA made cover, our cost is considerably more than you think. Sure we could go to China and have cheap ones made, but IMO, it's really time we start supporting our own economy for a change.

Exactly... and a cab in great shape with a cover brings a quicker sale for more money on the used market also. That being said, $120 for a 112 cover is a bit over the top. My guess is, the Tuki or LeCover equivalent is probably $70 or so.
