$500 amp shootout

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm getting a new amp soon but my budget is $500. I need enough power to drive a 4ohm 4x10 cab. I'm chasing a clear and clean tone for reggae, blues-rock and funk.

These are my options:
TC Electronic Classic 450
Gallien-Krueger MB500
Ibanez Promethean
Ampeg PF-500
Hartke LH500
Which would you get? Please suggest any other amps.

TC Electronic | BH500 - Red Rocks!

Ampeg PF500. Same wattage and price as the Carvin. What tone do you like? Because all these amps have a sound character...

You could drive that cab with my old GK400RB. $125 and it's yours!

I love the GK MB500. Beats out the LMIII and Shuttle 6.0 in my experience.

+1. Buy BOH's 400RB.

I have had a couple of these over the years, and I have never found better bang for the buck. Take the remaining $375 and buy some toys.

If you don't like it after a couple of weeks, you can get your $$ right back out of it.

Harry, if he doesn't buy this within three days...send me a PM.

DAYUM, the Promethean looks fantastic from what I've read, but hard to beat a 400RB for $125. For some reason I couldn't quite bond with GKs.

The Ampeg PF-500 will give 500 watts into 4 ohms. Price $399 new. If you dig what Ampeg brings to the table this will give it.
