$615 Ampeg SVT-4 PRO on eBay...should I?

Sign in to disble this ad

From the description it seems the head works but the front of it and the rack look pretty haggard.

Still, $615/Free Shipping is hard to not sneeze about.

I ask your sagely advice, fellow TBErs.

My advice is to not let others here get wind of a deal like that or you won't have a chance to buy it anyways!

I got a minty looking SVT-4 pro with rack and Furman on here for $650 about a year and a half ago. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's not a killer deal, but it's not a bad one either.

Big +1

It won't last long.

it's seen better days but it doesn't look abused...just well used without worrying about scratching it. like maybe it belonged to a backline company.

"one channel has a slight buzz..." sounds a little scary to me. Both channels would sound the same if it was something in the chain apart from the poweramp itself I think.

I wonder if the rack handle screw is broken off inside and has been rolling around the open chassis

did not see that. i just looked at it and assumed it worked. might be an easy fix, might not. in that case, maybe i'd pass.

I'd pass. I'd say by the appearance of it, it looks more than just "well worn." Thing looks like it's been banged around in and out of way too many gigs for me. That price would be more than I'd want to gamble with.

its amazing how terrible the resale value is on SVT 4pros. mine went for like 600 on ebay and it was in pristine shape. 615 is a good price for a killer amp.

Honestly that's the best deal for an SVT 4 I'm seeing right now. The others are usually $750+. I can actually get one locally new for $750+tax.

That was my first thought too Jimmy. If it were me I'd prefer to pay a bit more for something with less of a "history".

I know I wouldn't touch it. From the looks of the case, and the one channel buzzing, it's probably not worth 500.00.
Plus..... see the sellers negative and neutral feedback. All in the last six months. And if you can get a new one for 750.00, why take a chance on that P O S.

good luck

I'd pass, too many potential problems. Go new or wait for a better one to show up.

Pass on it. $615 plus you;ll need min $150 but into it to fix the "buzz" and god knows what else is wrong with it. So you're $765 minimum into it and it looks like s**t. You can find perfect condition one for $700-800 w/ no issues and look waaaay better.

my $0.02
