1 12" cabs. Thoughts and opinions?

Sign in to disble this ad
I, like so many, am going the way of lighter and easier. I just picked up an Markbasss F1, and I am thinking of pairing it with a couple of 1 12 cabs.

I know the Aguilar 112s are highly regarded, and I am seriously considering a pair of those. I am also seriously thinking of a couple of Markbass 121H Travelers to match the head.

I am curious if anyone has experiences that they may like to share.

I play mostly church gigs and other more laid back gigs that do not require rock band stage levels. My bass is a Sadowsky PJ five string.

Also, as a bonus, it would be nice to have something that would double as a DB amp. I usually run pa only with my DB gigs, but occasionally, an amp would be a nice thing to have.

Thanks,

Chas

I havent gigged with it, but I have a GK 112-II NEO that I like real well. Small, lightweight and very focused in tone. Pretty reasonably priced too: http://www.rmcaudiodirect.com/Gallie...-p/neo-112.htm

I love 12's!!!!!! (Specially bumpin' Outkast 1st album, in 82 Cutlass) The punch is there without being 'tick-tacky' (think $7,000 bass sound) and the low's are there without massive EQin' (think 15's)

All that said I have 4x10 Hydrive and 1x15 Ampeg......but I can remember......................

fEarful 12/6's with a 5-string. Anything less would be uncivilized.

I played the F1 with a 15/6 for the last six months and it's been phenomenal. It would KILL with a pair of 12/6.s

I really like a pair of 112 cabinets.

The modular approach is sure easy to live with, bring one for practices or small rooms, two for the higher volume or outdoor gigs. I'd rather make multiple trips hauling relatively light cabinets than have to cart one big cabinet.

As far as which 112 - that's something you've got to figure out through auditioning different cabinets. Tone is just too subjective for any of us to capture all the subtle flavors in words. Looking for specs that are meaningful? Forgetaboutit.

The part that sucks is that many of us who live in smaller cities do not have the luxury of dealers with a depth of product choices. Either we travel or buy off TB in a trial and error approach.

You can't go past the Bergantino 112s with Markbbass. The AE 112 sounds good but the bottom end with an HT112ER is to die for.

Loving my Bergantino HT/EX 112ER stack, but I liked the Aggie 12 quite a bit also.

I run 2 GS112's and they have a very good bottom end.
Aguilar make very good 12" cabs..light enough around 40 or so lbs AND ceramic.
I think the tweeter in the GS112 is a class apart as well if you should use such a thing...which you deffo should, IMV. Not at all brittle like some.

The GS has decent handles and are a very easy carry.

You're on the right track in looking at a pair. IME that's the way to go with 12's (or pair it with a small 1-15. The difference even at lower volumes is fullness of sound.

Mine too.

I used to run the Markbass thru 2 GS112s (upgraded w. Eminence Deltalites 2512 II after a while).
Now I am using either a db212 or 2 db112s.

So a big +1 on the Aguilar 12's!!!

+1. For the record, both of my GS112s (one with no tweeter) come in at 39 lbs on my scale.

And I have used the F1 with the GS112 pair. The pair of cabinets, in my opinion, very much tamed the inherent brightness of the amp. They were a good match for one another. I suspect a fEarful 15/6 would also be a great match for the F1.

I've heard the F1 through the Bergantino AE112, and felt that that was a little too bright with upper-mid honk.

I used Bag End 12s, which don't have the frequency response of some of these other cabs, but they paired well with the deep lows and high highs of the F1. I thought the F1 mated well with Bergantino HT112 cabs also (I had an older version, so can't comment on ER, etc.). I don't remember trying the Berg with my DB though.

I know you're looking for 12s, but for your needs (including upright), I'd also look into a pair of used Euphonic Audio VL110 cabs.

That is an amazing cab, especially when you factor in the light weight and low cost. I'm also quite fond of the Bergantino AE112 and HT112ER, Glockenklang Space Deluxe, Mesa/Boogie PH112, EBS Neo112, to name a few.
