1-Space Power Amps.

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm trying to locate a good 1-space power amp that will do 2, 4, 8 ohms and put between ~400-800 power. Is there such thing? If so, is if even a good idea to use for bass?

My thought is to use it with an Ampeg SVP-Pro (or CL) instead of an SVT3-Pro, so I can have similar tone, but better Ohm/power options.

Thoughts on this?

There are none that do 2 ohms AFAIK, but 4 and 8 are commonplace, and the wattage is no problem: one of Peavey's DPC models is rated for 1500W.

The problem with 1RU power amps is they tend to be extra long (deep) front-to-back, and they sometimes need an empty rack space above them for cooling. So you end up with an extra-deep 3RU rack, and no savings of weight or bulk after all.

You're better off getting a "micro" amp head, and a Tech21 VT Bass pedal if you want SVT tone in a small-but-powerful package.

There are a few options but most of them Class D. Why limit yourself to a 1U amp. There are hundreds of choices in the 2U form factor from lead sleds to light weight units with huge amounts of power.

Was trying to stay compact, thinking 2-space tops, but sounds like maybe not the best route...

I own a VT-Bass pedal, and I honestly have a love-hate thing going with it... I love what it can do, but it really introduces a lot of noise I do use it.

It is noisy, true--and so are Ampeg's rack preamps. Well, the CL isn't as noisy as the VT.

You're gonna laugh, but I have a DPC 750 that puts out 750 @ 8 ohms and 400 @ 400 or 350 @ 4ohms in stereo. I have been pairing it with an old Yamaha PB1 or a summit audio and it's a GREAT amp for the money!! When I take the amp and the Yamaha, I have a legitimate rack system for last than $200.

Stewart's 1.2 is an option. I have a 1.6 that I'm happy with as well (2 rack spaces

The Stewart sounds really good I had one and sold it now I wish I had not. The Peavey DPC's have a great reputation as others have suggested. Both exceed the depth of the Kaces 2 space rack bag I have. The Stewart was tolerable as it was not that much deeper.

I wanted the same thing, Pre/Power rig in a 2 space bag. The B* amps taht seamonkey is referring to seem to be eternally delayed getting to market. I had one on pre-order from Banana's and they had estimated a May delivery but as you can see still nothing!

I ended up with a TC Electronic RH450 class d head and I love it. I also have Demeter HBP-1 down in my garage (this being my 2nd try with one) because I got a wild hair up my rear and decided I wanted to have another go with a pre/power rig. If you look in the classifieds you will see both my Demeter and a QSC Powerlight 1.4 for sale because after a/b testing I have decided that I like my TC head well enough (actually I love it).

If you want one today I think the Stewart 1.2 or the Peavey DPC amps are your options. However I did not have this experience but people say the Stewart can overheat without proper ventilation which means either a really well ventilated 2 space rack or a 3 space rack so your amp has space on top in which just get a 2 space amp!
