Question 10" SPEAKERS FOR OLD 4x 10 CABINET ??

Sign in to disble this ad
HOWDY EVERYONE--

I need some advice from some experienced bass speaker people here. I have half of a 70's AMPEG 8 x 10 that my old friend sawed in two--back in the 80's or early 90's. I have had several rounds of EMINENCE 10" speakers in there but I blew them up. I don't tour or anything anymore but I do want to get a new/old amp and replace the 10" speakers. I have another SWR goliath III 4 x 10 that runs @ 8 ohms. If I got this old cab @ 8 ohms as well, I could have a 4 ohm option with both cabs.

My question is--- what kind of speakers would you people recommend putting in there?--OR-- is is not even worth the cost of new 4 x 10" speakers because newer 4 x 10 cabs would sound way better than this old one? ( fyi-- amps I would consider using would be older SVT or an early 90's SWR SM 900 )

THANKS FOR THE HELP...................

Assuming it's 1/2 a sealed SVT 810, the 32ohm Eminence Legend B810 is the correct replacement. Wire them all in parallel for an 8ohm 410.

Just grab some of the celestions that Dave from Avatar Speakers is selling for dirt cheap. They are good sounding speakers and what Peavey is using in the Trace Elliot cabs.

You can get 4 speakers for 119 plus 35 bucks shipping.

Click on "Scratch, Dent, Overstock"

Or you could grab a another 410 cab cheap. Acoustic 410's and Peavey 410's usually sell for 150 or less. The celestions I mentioned above would take more a beating though at 200 watts each. (Before the haters chime in about actual wattage handling these speakers aren't bad)

IIRC from previous threads, the Celestions are being sold cheaply because they are not that good for bass.

I may be doing the same to an old Ampeg B410 box soon, and I'll likely be using Weber Bass 10FLs.
