I was searching for a nice 112 cab to match with my MB500 and P-bass with flatwound strings. I just wanted to know how people think about the cabs in the poll (and others, too).

I have little experience with the cabs in your poll. I like these.

Heavy and awkward but I adore the warm bottom end and mid punch.
Their looks make them even better. |

Others | With that head and the bass and strings you are using, it would be hard for me to not recommend the Baer ML112. That cab seems made for a P with flats (or rounds). Nice dose of low mids, real low end that isn't over extended, good efficiency at 8ohms, and the particular mid driver sounds just beautiful with a P... you can get a bit of that 'top of the driver' type grind if you want it.
A P with flats isn't going to make much use of a tweeter, and most high quality two way cabs with tweeters have the top end of the driver cut off a bit. The particular voicing of the Baer ML112 results in it sounding like a very good one way cab.
P Bass heaven. I have a few clips up of the Baer ML112 with my P (with nickel wounds). It might give you a data point that might be somewhat useful.
IMO! All the cabs you list are good in there own way, and there are additional nice ones like some of the LDS cabs (the 3012HO models), and the Thunderchild. However, for a P with flats, and that very bright, deep, aggressive head, the Baer is pretty sweet! |

Seems like a good compromise between the fEARful and the Thunderchild, and, if you can't do the cab build yourself for the fEARful, a little cheaper than either one.

However, for what you're asking about I would highly recommend the Aguilar DB112. I recently heard a guy playing a P-bass/flatwounds through it and it sounded great. Later, he asked me to sit in and I loved it - unexpectedly great. I'd pick one up if it weren't so much heavier than the Epifani UL2-112 (no pun intended). |

I am pretty surprised that there are so many Aguilar fans out there (I didn't really consider buying Aguilar products, because of the weight.) I should definitely consider getting DB112. Thanks for your input, Aguilar fans!
And I feel bad for leaving out fEARful......sorry
I pretty much narrowed it down to Baer and Aguilar, since I am really confused about building fEARful cab and scared by the relatively high price . I hope this thread continues and help people who are looking for 112cabs. |

However, not even in the same universe as the Baer ML112, which is lighter, louder, deeper, just as punchy, and also has a much more usable top end with the mid driver for that kind of vibe.
Epi 112UL (nice cab) would be one of the last cabs I would recommend for the OP's needs, since it is quite hi fi up top, and has quite a lack of upper mids and also low mid punch that really make a P bass sing. IMO and a lot of IME on that one! |

Currently waiting on a second to arrive and may then look at changing my amp (currently rocking an Ashdown ABM 500 evo II... looking at the 550 Spyder.)
All of my basses save for my Rickenbacker are P-basses or variants of. My main gigging axe has been a P with flats. I get a LOT of compliments from musos at gigs on my playing and tone

Great subject!....since 12's are becoming very popular.
One comment on the poll: some of those cabs listed haven't been available very long, so I think that skews the results. What I noticed is, the Berg HD112's just came out, and look at the Berg's impressive bar length in the poll compared to other 12's that have recently become available. I think that says alot about the Bergs.
The Aguilars have been around for quite a while, so more people have them, hence the longer bar. That doesn't mean they are better. I'm not dissing the Aggies, I'm just making the point of poll results being skewed based on how many people have those cabs, which is, in part, a function of how long those cabs have been available.
IMO of course.
