12" Speaker Question

Greetings

I came across an 80s Sunn beta cab. This was when they were painting the inside wood white. I hated the look when it came out but has recently grown on me. 2x12 speakers, diagonal speaker placement, two round ports – maybe each about 2 ½" across. The outside dimensions of the cab are 25x25x12 inches. It has a sealed back – not open.

12s are getting more popular for bass and would like to try it out. I was wondering if anyone has experience with the Eminence Beta-12A-II 12" Driver?

If not – then I am open to suggestions.

Depends on how strong an amp you'll be using with it. Beta's are good for getting volume from older, lower power stuff because of a response hump they usually give in the midbass. That hump can turn to boom sometimes so if you've got some power to throw at it, other choices might suit you better. 200 watts or less, beta's a decent choice, affordable too.

Caveat: this is one off, semi-educated guess type suggestion. Actual interior volume of the box and accurate port diameter and depth are needed for an accurate model and thus better suggestions.

I loaded a sealed 4x12 cab with the Delta 12's (16 ohm version) and have been quite pleased with it on bass, it even works ok with guitar.

I've noticed that a lot of commercial cabs seem to be way undersized, compared to the optimum if I run WinISD.

I have had problems with modern 15s in big old ported cabs as the drivers over excurge. The Sunn cab is similar to a modern Avatar 2x12, but not as deep. So, I have also thought about something similar to the speakers they use - some sort of Eminence.
