The 15'/6'/1' Bass Cab Appreciation Thread!!

Sign in to disble this ad
After a spirited and lively debate on the Avatar TB-153 thread today, I have decided that it is time for all of us 15"/6"/1"/ bass cabinet users to unite under one 15"/6"/1" Umbrella! After about 60+ gigs with my 15" 3 Way Avatar TB-153 cab over the last several months, I am convinced that this configuration will one day be as prevelent and heavily utilized as 4x10's, 2x12's etc. I know that fans of PassinWind and Greenboy's designs are equally passionate about their cab designs! The blend of chest pounding clean low end, tasty articulate mids, and variable amounts of sweet tweet on top just really hit the spot! fEaRfUl cab lovers and 15" 3 Way Cab fans chime in and unite!!!

I will take my first club number ever, do I need a picture? Oh never mind, its is a appreciation thread not a club. No problem, I really love my TB153, and so do everyone i have played with so far...

I'm going to nitpick here briefly because I work in an engineering field: ' indicates feet, whereas " indicates inches... A cab with 15' (180"), 6' (72") and a 1' (12") would no doubt be impressive though ...Maybe that's actually what you're talking about, in which case I demand pictures!

I've been rocking an LDS built nEarful 15/6/1 for a while now and absolutely love the design. It's perfect for any exectution where full range is the desired tone goal. Modern pop, rock, country and funk contexts really shine with this for me. I have moved away from this type of design for older-school contexts like my 80's hair metal/butt rock band where I feel a traditional design, specifically a sealed one works the best. Outside of that, I won't be using anything but these types of full range designs from here on out. Absolutely love them.

This should be a club! I want a number faulknersj! I bought a TB153 before it was cool. In the good ol' days when they were $399 All in favor of a club, sound off!

Uh oh, now I have done it. I will take #1! As far as being up to date on giving out numbers, I might let people roll call their own. I am 1, faulk is 2, etc,etc. Since we are laid back here, you don't even have to own one. Just like the 15/6/1 variants. So if you want a number, sound off like you have a pair!

I'm not much into clubs, but count me as never going back to a traditional driver configuration for gig needs. Crossed 15/6 (with a long x-max 15, take or leave the tweet) for me please.

No ones for me, but I've rectified the situation by adding another 15(sub).

Here's my fEarful gen-1 15/6+15/sub.

What a thing of beauty. Nice.

Count me in. My TB153 has transformed the sound of the bands I'm in. I've played 15's, 2x15, 15+18, 2x10s, 2x12s,15+2x10, 4x10, 8x10, 2 x 4x10, 8x8 - the TB153 is my favorite. I was about to begin a fEarful build, but for 399 I couldn't resist, and I'm so glad I bought it.

Zenrad...I feel the same way man....hard to think of a cab I haven't tried other than a fearful (which I really want to try!). I'm on break at a gig right now and my TB-153 makes me smile every time!

BLFCE = Before Eminence 3015LF Common Era

ALFCE = After...

I use a lot on compression on my hi-mids (700Hz--2.8kHz) so I stopped using the tweeter on my old cab. But I can see why Avatar put the tweet and mid on either side: less angling to give the drummer the air that their cymbals take away--and a speaker there no matter which side of the drummer you place the cab.

Personally, on top of my fEarful sub I want a 7" cube with a $40 Eminence Alpha 6" facing the side (singer & guitarist) and another facing the rear (drummer). I want it 16ohm so with the 8ohm sub I can get my amp cooking at 5ohms with 2/3rds of the power going to the sub. I also want a 6dB rolloff starting at 1kHz (that's -24db rolloff by 60Hz) on the cube. The rolloff-filter should be switchable so the cube can double for home audio/guitar.
Anybody else like to have one of these? By itself it'd be a very compact 200w rms practice monitor. Maybe Greenboy could design it and add it to his page?
