Hi all

I have a gk 1001rb ii 2 by 10 combo but it doesn't give me enough low end. Can you recommend some cabs please?

Give us a price range. That helps a lot. Also what genre are you playing? Looking for a particular sound?

A matching GK 2x10 is what you really want- a 15, by it's size alone, will not add more low end. Adding ANY 2nd cab, will. Best results will be achieved by "matching" cabs.

i would recommend building a fEarful 15/6, or checking out that avatar 'tb' 15/6/tweet model (if the special is still going on).

+1 ~ another 2x10
then you'll be taming your lows instead of forcing it

I have about £600 to spend. Could push to £700 but would prefer not to
Our band has influences of rhcp maroon 5 jamiroquai and rage against the machine
All of our songs are different so I want a sound that caters for all styles really

I've been eying a markbass cab for a while. I personally think it sounds amazing.

Honestly though the best thing you can do is go out and try them. The markbass is $1000. I don't know how much they sell them for in the UK, but probably not more than 600 pounds.

I to have looked at them and yes you can get an NY 115 for my price range. I have heard good things about them. I was leaning towards markbass but Mesa boggie have the powerhouse which is also tempting me

Get the Markbass. Sounds so clean. Great for slap tone or whatever. Plus they are super light.

This. Probably a GK Neo 210. It seems like one of their best offerings for what you're looking for.

It's a crapshoot mixing and matching cabinets and especially between brands. Everyone else will come in here and tell you what they like. We're telling you what will sound like what you already have, except louder.

Would it not just make more of the same mid tone if another 2 by 10 was pair with it? Can't say I have tried another one yet though

Since you listed your budget in Pounds Sterling, here's what I propose. You should look into Barefaced Bass and the Big One. Then call and have a chat with Alex. While chatting, ask him to suggest an amp for your goals. Then, after you've ordered the Big One (or whatever Alex suggests), sell your combo, to offset the cost of the new rig.

I was thinking the same thing, those Barefaces look nice.

Robby

p.s. when you pluralize Bareface, it sounds funny.

No, no, no! This is a commom misperception. Speaker size has nothing to do with how low a speaker goes. There are a plethora of more important factors-cabinet design, the xmax of the speakers, the total cone area, among others. You get more of everything with two more 10's (or any other cab for that matter.)

Thanks everyone. Been a real help. I think some extensive testing needs to be done on all combinations

More speakers move more air = more bass! Adding two more tens will inrease your sound across the full spectrum. Go to GC or whatever you guys have there and plug the same head in to a 2x10, then a 4x10, then a 6x10, then an 8x10. You'll get more bass as well as more power, and you will hear the full spectrum get better and better!

That being said, I'm a big fan of 15's too! If you're set on the 15, I had an Eden D115XLT that was fantastic! I miss that cab.
