| | | | 15" club So, I'm starting a club for those with a love of 15" speakers.
Rules:
1. If your rig consists of only 15"s, such as a 1x15 or a 2x15, it is automatically acceptable.
2.If other speakers are involved, there must be at least one 15" for every four others. A 4x10/1x15 is acceptable, so is an 8x10/2x15. But, an 8x10/1x15 is not. A small 1x15 cab next to an 8x10 monster is embarrassing to the 15" so, show the 15"s some respect
3. Pics must be displayed or linked to to obtain numbers.
4. If your rig consists of two 2x15 cabs, you are a god
I'll start. My first amp was a Fender 1x15 combo. When I decided to upgrade, I tried many of my friends amps, and many amps in stores. What I found is, no matter how hard I try, I cannot find an amp with tone of a 15", except for 15"s, obviously. When I decided to upgrade, I bought a 2x15. The tone is amazing, and unlike the rumors, I find a good 15" to have no mud whatsoever. I am a 15" user, and will probably remain so for life.

I'm going to stick with the 15's when I upgrade. Sure, an 8x10 looks cool, but 2x15 is just staight-up BA.

The two sideways cabs on the left are 2x15's.
I'll gladly accept either number 420, or 666.

I'm on an semi-formal hunt -meaning I check CL every now and then- for a vintage Peavey 215 cab (or two), but for now I'm rockin' this old Peavey 115 cab made sometime in the '70s.
I also have an old Crate B80XL I use at rehearsals that has a 15" that I'm quite fond of.

In a combined 10" and 15" rig, I prefer the ratio of one 15" to every two 10" speakers.
So if I upgrade at all, it will be to a 4x10 and a 2x15. Beyond that, the only acceptable upgrade would be an 8x10 and a 4x15. |

Well number two disqualifies me. Sorry, you will have me in spirit though.

Just felt like showing off my rig. Sold the QuatraValve to a fellow TB'er and use my AH350SMX now to maintain an all Trace rig. |

Oh...and it is just a myth that 15's are "slower" or muddy...just like it's a myth that 10's give one no bottom end. It's all about cab design.
These cabs are screaming loud if need be and the cabs are more mid-voiced and very clear and articulate.
