15" Combos

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone - I am looking into getting a 15" combo to play around my place because I don't play out as much now, just church and whatnot - I'm trying to find a 15" combo that is nice standalone to practice with but can run an Ext cab (another 15) if I were to play out here and there. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions. And yes, I know there are plenty of 2x10 combos that can run extensions but I'm looking for a dual 15 set up.

Thanks!
Ben

I play a Mark Bass Jeff Berlin signature 1x15 combo and love it. Check them out when you get a chance.

HUGE+1 to the Jeff Berlin combo. That 15 can handle some nasty lows. I was tempted to pick up the headless version of it (NY 151) but I want a Orange obc115

It's also really lightweight. Well worth the money. Those NY cabs totally trump the traveller series.

Bingo.
If you didn't need the extension cab, I'd say go with the GK MB115, but needing that extension cab out, go with the Jeff Berlin.

Eh, GK MB15 is alright. Not bad but it didn't blow me away. Maybe I didn't spend enough time with it.

I use an Acoustic B200 that has a 15" and a port for extension cabs. Also a DI XLR port for a PA. I supplement the B200 with a 210. The sound and tone of the B200 is awesome and I play a 5'er and I can hit the low B without issue. They are fairly inexpensive from GC.

a lot of good ones out there but the one i'm waiting to try is the solid state ampeg portaflex combos. if they're as good at copping b-15 tones as the micro vr is at copping svt tones, i think they'll be the ones to get. not out till march, though.

GK is coming out with the powered extension cabs for the MB series. I'm very happy with my MB115. The prospect of adding another powered cab is intriguing even though I don't need it.

I play at several area churches, and they usually have a 15 inch combo available. I've played Line6 Lowdown, Peavey TNT, Acoustic B200, Crate, and Fender Rumble. To me, the Acoustic has the best tone. And I didn't need to turn it past 1/2 volume to completely overpower a loud drummer--just fooling around before rehearsal.

If I were going to buy a combo, I'd look at Markbass, GK, and other lightweight combos. But if I wasn't planning on lugging it around everyday, I'd consider the Acoustic B200.

The Ampeg B-100R is a great little 15" combo if you can find one used. Might only be 100 watts, but it's a loud 100 watts into a 4 ohm speaker. But if you are looking to add another speaker and need more watts - keep an eye on the new solid state Portaflex amps coming this spring from Ampeg

I forgot about the Ampeg. I've played that one too....I still recommend the Acoustic. I prefer the acoustic's tone. The Ampeg combo that I played had a great tuner built in though. The Acoustic doesn't have one.
