15" vs 2-12" Advice..

Sign in to disble this ad
I am ready to get a new rig and I was thinking about getting a 4x 210 to pair with a 15".. However, I've heard where some here say that the volume that comes from the 4x10 will overpower th lows of the 15".

I've searched but didn't find anything really answering my question..

First, is this true?

Secondly, would 2 12"s be a better pair for the 4x10?

Any other suggestions are welcomed!
Thanks

The best match would be a cab identical to the first.

And yes, a 410 will overwhelm the 115. A 210 is a better match to a 115. Output from a 215 would match a 410 better, but you will more than likely sound better matching a 410 with another 410.

Would both 4x10s give plenty of lows without farting? Not to sound noob, i've never really needed a gigging rig until now

Wait, how many 4x10's are you going to have? 4x 210s?

The issue with a 4x10" and 1x15" is when they are the same impedence. (both 8 ohm cabs). Let's say your amp is 500watts at 4 ohms. Each cab gets 250 watts. Your 1x15 is getting 250 watts and each 10 is getting 62.5 watts. So not only is your 15 getting a majority of the power, your 4-10 has more surface area so it will sound louder (if they are equal or greater efficiency to you 1-15", which they usually are).

A 2-12" would be a better match with a 4x10" or just use 1 2x10" and a 1x15".

I as planning on only having 1-4x10, but nothing is in stone. I just want massive lows, and plenty of volume and projection without having to haul around something that is really heavy. I dont mine 2 0r 3 trips with 50 pounds each, but 1 trip with 100 some odd pounds can get old quick.. haha

Forget about cone diameter, audition a bunch of cabinets with your eyes closed and buy 2 of the one you like.
