18 watts is all i need...

...to record.

haha.

no seriously. i built an 6V6 version of the 18w Marshall amp over on the 18w forums and once used it for my guitar stuff. well, since i made the amp from an old Hammond Organ, i recycled the old cap cans so the big 50's kept that low end boom.
how does a bass sound with this thing? AMAZING. i cranked it up nearly all the way and recorded all of my bass tracks with it. rich, creamy tone with all the low end there.
now, even my guitarist is tracking with the amp!
and to think, the best tone i've ever gotten for only $90 in parts!!
so when it comes to studio recording and the engineer offers you a direct box... crank up a homemade amp and smile at the control room playback!

Also, can't believe a 18w Marshall and a Hammond Organ are only $90

I use a 12 watt fender musicmaster bass to record through a mic personally(not turned up very loud because of the obvious bottom out, but it sounds so good)... so I definitely believe this.

+1 on finding a low cost effective way to record if its what you like!

Must have sound clips or you're lying. Just kidding. BTW, your name, Footbutt, tells me that I know you from playing Halo at Jason's house.

well, believe it. bought an old Hammond organ amp off the bay for $50, plus $40 in extra parts= 18w Marshall 'clone' with a low end to boost!

i'll try and get clips up soon... any idea where a free site is to do that?

Spermchicken, Mammory Man, etc. I've been doing good. Haven't played Halo in a while though. We need to have another party.

I know a few Aarons but I think I know the one you're talking about. He's been in several bands around the area IIRC. When are you guys playing out next? I may have to come see you.

It was late, I needed a profile name for my friend's X Box, they laughed, and I chose it. There were worse, believe me.

18 watts? That much?????????

I have used my early '70s Princeton Reverb Amp (12 watts ) into my custom EV B-110 with excellent results.
