Please make a speaker cabinet recommendation for a 1967 Fender Bassman Blackface 50 watt. Leaning toward a 2x12 or 4x10. Avatar, Aguilar, Mesa Boogie?

My Bassman with its twin twelve cabinet was pretty useless. The speakers, Jensen as I remember, couldn't handle anything I tried to put through it. In later days and wit a different Bassman head I had success through marshall 100W 4x10. Good luck, sincerely, with trying to make that head work for you.

Thanks for the response. So much for wishful thinking. I'm a guitar player and have used this Bassman thru a 4x12 for years. My daughter is taking up bass and I was hoping I could get her a decent beginners rig by getting an "efficient" newer bass cab. The entry level combo amps we've tried really sound bad. Maybe time to sell a kidney and get a TC Electtonic Combo450. A decent combo where she doesn't require the services of some teenage boy to haul her gear.

While Paul's advice is good for a gigging situation, I think you have an entirely different goal in mind. I started out using a Fender Tremolux into the 2-ten cabinet that came with it. This combination sounded excellent at low practice volumes, but was obvousily underpowered for gig situations. Find her a good quality 2x10 and wish her well. When she is ready to play out, I'm sure daddy will be ready to buy her any amp she wants.

I'd agree with this. A 210 would be plenty to sound good practicing and could get the job done jamming with her friends as they likely also have entry level or slightly larger amps. If she sticks with it and the time comes for a real gig, get her her own rig that she likes and can manage without the assistance of teenage boys.

I'm not sure if the circuitry between a '67 and a '71 is different, but my Eden 2x10 sounds great with my '71 Silverface Bassman, and it's pretty loud too. I think you can find them used for around $400...

i've run my '66 bassman with it's original cab loaded with JBL K120's and it sounds great. the JBL's are very efficient so it made my 50W bassman sound and feel ALOT more powerful than a 50W amp..

You can get an Avatar 210 or 112 cab with black Tolex and Fender style grill cloth. I think that would be a good match for the head and look cool too.
