Is there such a thing as an user manual for the early SVT's, have searched the net but don't seem to be able to find anything, although I have found many links to the schematics.

Maybe for a "gee-whizz" kind of a thing , but it's not really needed is it?
Mine is a 1970 (I dated the pots to January 1970) and like all of them it's simple.

Schematics aside, I'd think a users manual for a current CL or VR should suffice.

I never saw one in the crate when I used to sell them back in olden times. Like one of the prior posters said?, It's pretty simple, and follows the usual AMPEG pattern, boost and cut from 12o;clock. The rocker switches speak for themselves.

Well that's odd, I suppose they just expected people to know what to do, but as the schematics are in the amp and they were careful with their warnings on the back of the amp, you would think they'd put it down in writing too.
I'm quite happy with my settings and don't need any guidance with that, its just nice to have the whole package.

i bought a couple of new ones back in the '70's (in the factory sealed boxes) and, come to think of it, they didn't come with a manual.

Cheers, if they didn't have a manual, then I have all the goodies and a complete package already and I'm happy, better get on with playing.

There is a general manual that covers several models including the SVT here (http://www.ampegv4.com/pdf/v4_manual.pdf, http://www.ampegv4.com/images/).

I have seen a 1977 SVT service manual reproduction that included the schematics, parts list, calibration procedure, circuit board layout, and specs. It has been offered on eBay from time to time (http://myworld.ebay.com/1023chris/) for $10. I don't have a copy but it looked interesting.

Here's what I have...

This is the most useful page to me, I am not qualified to work on this amp.

Other than this page, it's just schematics and part numbers. I got it free here from someone, sometime ago, and if you want the full thing send me a PM and I'll get it out to you. Be sure to include your email address as it's a zip file.
