1970s Ampeg SVT Head

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an Ampeg V9 and have been wanting to pair it up with an Ampeg SVT from the 70s. A friend of mine said that the head would blow up if I ran the two together because it'd be working too hard. Is this true???

No its not working to hard the V9 has been paired and sounds great with a 130watt Ampeg V4B.......

A tube SVT only has a 4ohm and 2ohm tap, so the only importance is to have a proper impedance match.

In fact if I remember correctly the v9 is a 4ohm cabinet so you could run 2 V9's on the 2ohm tap. And the only thing it might hurt is your ears.

I read it's tuned for guitar. SVT might blow it up.

Bull. Period. The V9 head was an svt power amp with a slightly different preamp so if it was going to blow up an svt it would have blown up a V9.

All that said, the V9 cab was a guitar cab, but that isn't saying much since the original svt cabs used "guitar" drivers as well. They don't do a ton of lows, but when you have a lot of them you get a good low-mid presence that really punches. With the V9 cab I'd be a little more conscious of your volume levels and make sure you aren stressing the speakers, but as long as its a 4 ohm load the head will be fine.
