Ha ha. I remember when these came out. I had been using a Peavey Combo amp, and had only been playing a year or so. I tried one out at the store and about blew the windows out of the place. They made me unplug and leave it alone. Weighed a TON!!!

It's like two Combo 300's plus a little more in one box.... daaaaaaaannng

I think I saw one of those at a Music Go Round a few years ago for a lot less money. Didn't realize how much power it actually had!

I had a Max back in the day that ran a 3620 and a 2x15, what a beast. They took the preamp from a Combo 300 and matched it up with a CS800 power amp and stuffed it in a road case, always loved the "punch" switch.

Wow. If I were to go back to Peavey gear, this is what I'd want. (Right now my back is screaming, "Nooooo! Noooo! Shut up! Look away!) 70 pounds. Yike.

A nice bit of vintage Peavey amp I must say. 70 pounds of solid state bad assitude, all built like a tank.

Tube Watts > SS Peavey Watts (& vintage GK Watts) > "Regular" SS Watts.

The TNT 130 was my first "real" bass amp. It still lives in my studio. I like the black and blue color scheme (caused by the "punch" knob, I'd guess) of the old Peaveys. Here's mine:

Nice toes, Weekend Warrior!

EDIT: Is this amp set up for full time bi-amping? No full range? Looking at WW's pic, it seems so.

I switched to the MAX after a gig with Derringer back in the 80's.They had just received a buttload of new Peavey gear and his bassist actually asked me if I'd like to try it.He even offered to let me use it for our set! My main rig until then was a 70's SVT with 1- 810 & 2-412's.An absolute monster, well at least I thought until I switched to 2 MAX heads,2-1810 cabs and 2 118 cabs biamped! The tone was actually a lot less muddy than you would think with all those 18's. Stages would literally shake under this thing. Sometimes I miss being young and dumb!

I've never tried my TNT through anything but the stock non-BW 15" in the combo. Might play with it tonight through the power section of my GK. I'd like to know more about whether its tone comes from the voicing of the pre or the characteristics of the speaker.

I'd have guessed higher. Those old CS800s were HEAVY.

I never owned this amp, but am pretty sure you could also run it full-range, either parallel stereo (400w @ 4ohms/channel) or mono bridged (800w @ 8ohms).

I have one that I run in bi-amp mode, to a single 18" Black Widow, and Peavey 410, great rig. I usually run a bit of distortion through the top end, and run the bottom end clean. They have an effects loop for both the high pass, and the low pass, almost like running two completely independent amps. And, yes, you can run it full range or bi-amped, and the crossover is fully adjustable, as well. I'd love another, but I rarely see them up here in the Great White North.

Regards
