1996 SWR Goliath III issue, help please

Sign in to disble this ad
As you can no doubt tell from the title, I have a 1996 SWR Goliath III (8 ohm) cab that has issues and needs help. I have at least one blown speaker, the cab is making the most God-awful noise when I play. (And while I need to learn to play better, that isn't the issue here. Nipped that one in the bud, didn't I?) It becomes increasingly more prevalent as I play ever lower. I know it isn't the amp, I've tried that with another cab.

So, do I re-speaker the entire cab, replace just the bad one(s), sell the cab as is and buy another, or something else? If I do re-speaker the entire cab, what are the best speakers for rock? (Sorry, couldn't help myself) What speakers should I use, though? Direct (NOS) replacement P.A.S., Eminence, something else? Best model?

Thanks in advance for your !

Before you buy all new speakers, you need to check a few things. One of my GIII's was making some bad noises too until I pulled the speakers and found that the wire lugs on two of the speakers had vibrated loose. Tightend them up, and bad sounds are gone! When I bought my first GIII it had a speaker that had a torn cone that was repaired by it's former owner by gluing paper to the back side of the cone. Some of the paper was loose and vibrating against the cone. A little glue fixed it, and haven't had a problem with it since.

I'll have to take a look at that. Thanks.
