1st Time w/ Ampeg SVT7-Pro and Uber410 in studio tomorrow...any presets advice?

Sign in to disble this ad
I had bought an Genz Benz Uber410 from a fellow TB'er and then got a new Ampeg SVT7-Pro. Tomorrow I will finally get it into my bands rehearsal space so I can let 'er rip.

The 7Pro's manual does not have anything by the way of presets etc. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe just look up the SVT3-Pro's manual to get a "Rock" setting? I've looked up that manual for a rehearsal studio I go to has it. I will be playing a Fender American Standard P bass tuned to C# (or all strings tuned down a step and a half). Any advice is appreciated.

Plug it in, turn every tone knob to noon, play a little, adjust your tone from there to your liking, and let 'er rip. It'lll be hard to find a bad sound in that rig. And half the fun of a new rig is turning knobs and seeing what you can get out of it. Don't worry about suggested settings and just play around with it before you get there so you have a better idea of what it can do, then have fun.

I like some deeper lows and nice, prominent mids. From left to right, I usually have the compressor ~ 9 or 10 o'clock, gain at noon, engage the ultra-lo, roll the bass back a hair, dime the mids, mid selector on 2 or 3, hair of treble boost, master to taste.

I'm pretty used to what has become a classic Ampeg tone stack, with the ability to change the character of your tone by using the mids selector and the corresponding knob, and tweaking the bass for room EQ and the treble for definition. It's a useful setup and IMO is the best way to get a lot of usable tones without a complicated EQ setup.

The only difference with the 7Pro is that they finally made the Ultra-lo button usable, which in the past I felt it not to be, at least for me.

You might find you like the mid boosted a bit beyond the bass and treble. To me that makes the 7-Pro come alive in a great way while still retaining low-end thickness and punch.

I wouldn't copy anything about a 3Pro...the 7Pro sounds so much better to my ears...not sure what happened with the 3Pro...just a terrible sounding amp compared to most other Ampegs

+1 to all comments so far. Ampegs you-tube channel has some vids of Dino showing some great differing eq's for the 7 pro too, if you'd like some eg's.
But, is hard to get a bad sound outta that amp & the cab you've got should work great too.
