Hi ! (modified the thread a bit for a broader discussion)
I like the sound of a good 10 inch speaker. Actually, I'm used to playing with 8 of them simultaniously (SVT).
Lately, I've been looking for a small practice combo that I could bring to an occasional jam with PA support. The Line 6 LowDown Studio 110 caught my attention because it's cheap and it sounds pretty good and loud on it's own. Is there anything else I should check out before I settle with the Line 6 ? It could be something more expensive... and it has to survive the use of a low B and an occasional octave pedal. Ideas ?
EDIT :
The portability and small footprint of a 1x10 is appealing to me, but I don't want an amp that will self destruct 'cause I push it too hard... if you see what I mean. A 2x10 could be an option, but it would still have to be smallish and lightish. I tried an Hartke Hydrive 210C once and liked it. Other ideas in that range ?

I'm no expert, but I dunno if any 1x10 will survive a B0...

If you're used to playing through an 8x10 you're not going to hear anything like the same sound. The size of the cab exerts real limitations...but the guys at G-B do some amazing things.

Somebody on this forum that's played both says the promethean 110 combo beats it at 1/2 price. Haven't seen one yet to try.
And I'm still itching to get my grubby fingers on the AI ten2. Extremely versatile.
That probably wasn't very helpful. Sorry. |

If a practice amp that might, occasionally, be ran to the board it's about all you need. If you want to go super cheap, I also thought the Ibanez Soundwave SW35 was pretty good. |

I'm pretty happy with my SWR WM10.
It's got the speaker upgraded, but an occasional F# is a possibility if care is taken, also on monitor duty on gigs.
I will probably build an extension for it to add more flexibility, 80W with a single 10" only gets You so far .

| | | | +1 on the SWR WM10. I own one and also have the 1x10 extension cab. The combo alone is very surprising for such a small rig but the addition of the extension cab really opened things up. You'll be pushing 2x10's 100 watts @ 4ohms. Now these are discontinued in favor of SWR's new "wedge shaped thing" that does NOT allow the use of an extension cab.
Take a look on ebay. They pop up occasionally. |
