Which 1X12 to pair with my Goliath Jr?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm interested in having a good, lightweight 12" to use for practices, but which can also be paired with my Goliath Jr. III for gigs where the 2x10 isn't quite enough (although I have to say, that cab is LOUD when it needs to be for a 2x10).

I'd like something that's sonically similar if possible (and there's the challenge!). I've tried with a Markbass 12" combo, but the two cabs were so different it was hard to eq them properly together.

Budget probably under $400.

I play 4-strings and EUB. Mainly rock/pop, funk, etc. Not playing loud metal.

Thanks!

I use an earcandy 1x12. Don't know if it is in your price range, but they will talk to you about your gear and what you play... to help customize a cab for you. I love mine for small and medium gigs.

Some people like them some dont.

Just my 2 cents.

A custom build is an interesting idea. Thanks, I will look into it.

Any suggestions for off-the-shelf cabs?

Back when I had a Gol. III jr., I had OK luck pairing it with both the Aguilar GS112 and the Epifani T-112.

But I preferred pairing it with a BagEnd S15. YMMV.

That's very helpful, thanks!

I know I'm not addressing your question directly but your best options are most likely

1) another Gol. III Jr -- you can stack them vertically for the widest possible angle of dispersion, plus you won't have to worry about phasing issues.

2) get a cab with a 15" speaker. The bag end sounds like a good recommendation.

I used to use an Avatar 112 with my Eden 210XLT years ago and they blended very well together . The Avatar added a little roundness to the low end even though the Eden had a great bottom end itself . Also it made the rig loud enough that I could use it at bar gigs without worrying about straining the 210 by adding too much low end for certain songs when I'd had a few towards the end of the night . Maybe one of them would work with your SWR , they have the same tweeter .

I haven't ruled this out completely, but would go with something lighter. Still might try a 12, though, as I really like the portability.

I hear you on the portability thing; I have two 1x12s. One stays in the trunk unless it's needed.

The biggest issue with mixing a 12 with a 2x10 is going to be phasing. Out in the room some notes are going to sound louder than others, and some notes may not be heard.
