2 2x10 cabs vs 1 410 cab

Sign in to disble this ad
I looked but didn't find any info on this topic.
Question:Is there any noticeable difference in the sound if I use 2 2x10 cabs or 1 410 cab.

I've been wanting to add an Avatar 210 neo to my existing 210 neo. This would allow me the luxury of taking just one cab when needed instead of hauling two. However, I want the added sound of a 410 cab, but then I'd have to pack the weight of the 410 every time.

So, has anyone been in this scenario?
If so, did you notice a difference in sound?

I'm thinking there won't be enough difference to justify selling my 210 to buy one 410, but was just wondering if anyone had input on this.

Thanks up front for any response.

Rufus

Two 210s stacked vertically would be much better than a 410 cab.

this seems to becoming a popular rig here on TB based on all the posts I've been reading the last while. It's a great way to go and no there's no difference, all things weighed the same (eg 2-10 vs 4-10 of the same line from the same builder).

Another advantage is that if you stack these vertically you'll have better dispersion of the mids and highs and hear yourself better since there will be speakers near/at ear level.

I personally like the ease of schlepping, too, esp as I age but given the alternative I'll take it

The only difference will be 9 inches. The two 210 cabs stacked together will be 9 inches higher than one 410 cab. The vertical stacking will take that to a new level-pun intended.
I'm not in a bind as for being able to hear so really the vertical stacking wouldn't be necessary, but would be interesting to try.

Two 2x10's are much more flexible in how you can use them, and much easier to transport.

The first three out of three posts are telling me what I was wanting to hear.

2x 2x10 vertical is the new 4x10. I put mine vertically on top of a 15 and it goes great for me and great out in the room. I got lucky with phasing, 2x identical 2x10 is guaranteed sonic goodness.

Thanks downunderwonder, this thread has made up my mind and I'm going with another 210.

Good choice. My 410 rig is now two 210's too, and I'm much happier than I was using a 410.

If going for smaller cabs like this, any comment on using 10" vs 12" drivers?

4x12" is too much to carry, but two 2x12" would not be so bad and would give about 40% more area (ie more sound level) compared to 2x10".

flexibility

smartness and flexibility. Those are the best way to describe a 2 x 210 choice in my opinion. I Own 2 Berg 210 and previously owned a Berg 410 (same drivers etc.) I was allowed to make a side to side comparison and found a certain difference in tone (deeper and wider tone in the 410). But finally choose the modular system because of some reasons:
- use only one or two depending on loudness/power limits required
- installed feet also on another side of the cabs so I'm able to use them vertical or horizontal. The tone changes quite dramatically from this action.
- easier to move and to put in my car
- can play in two rehearsal spaces with the same gear
- taller than a 410

Only consistent "cons" is the higher price

IMO the best "plus" is the tone differencies that you can have by stacking them (horizontal-vertical) and using one/two. Combine these modes and you have a super smart gear. With a certain head I like horizontal (T-funk), with another vertical (STM 900), with my Wick Lx jazzman horizontal, with my Mayones vertical etc, but this can change in boomy rooms etc, super flexible
