My rig is an old Carvin RL1000. This rig came from Carvin with an 8 ohm 4x12 and a 4 ohm 1x18, which means that it will not allow this amp to bridge at 1000 watts ( 2 ohms). It really isn't loud enough for me and I suspect it could be with the right cab. I also have blown 2 10" speakers in the last 4 years.
So my question is do you think I should get a 2 ohm cabinet that will handle at least 1000 watts, (preferably an 8x10), and bridge the amp for the full 1000 watts.

I have that same amp, I ran it bridged into two, 8 ohm 410s. You wont be able to bridge your amp with the cabs you have now. As you stand now you are pumping 225 watts into the 412 and 350 into the 118. |

I like the tone with the 4x10 and 1x18, but I am not convinced that I wouldn't also like the tone of an 8x10. Primarily, I want much more volume and I don't want to blow speakers. I have little faith in these Carvin cabs anymore and will likely look for some used Ampeg stuff. What do you guys think, a 4 ohm 8x10 or an 8 ohm 4x10 and an 8 ohm 1x15? Will I still get plenty of low end from the 8x10? Which will be louder?

A 410 will go just as low as a 115 and having two of the same cab will guarantee that they will work well together sonically. Two 410s are also more flexible than an 810 because for lower volume gigs you wont have to haul that 810 along with you. |

EDIT: I'd imagine a second 8 ohm 4x12 would be monstrous, in the Godzilla sense.

| | | | 1000W @ 4Ohm into 8x10" will be plenty of loud.
Enough low end? You will have to hear that for your own. If an Ampeg 810 doesn't deliver enough to you try a front ported 810 like the Hughes&Kettner QS-810 (Quantum Series). Which is an awesome cab btw. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
