2 Preamps into 1 power amp.....

Sign in to disble this ad
I have some gigs that require EUB and horizontal EB. I wanted to plug each bass into it's own preamp and plug both into one power amp. I was thinking that I could a.) use a Y cable and just leave both on all the time but turn the volume down on the bass I'm not using or b.) use a relay switch to switch between the two pres.

Is this safe for the power amp? The relay would be the best option, but I don't know if switching preamps back and forth will cause popping or damage to the speakers or power amp.

Why not a small mixer? That would be the 'right' way IMO.

An A/B box would work - a mechanical one will most likely cause pops though. Same for the relais.

This isn't a problem for the power amp, but it could be for the speakers. Try at save levels first.

It works, I do it. Demeter, Rane AP-13, Stewart Power, AB box.

I leave them all plugged in and on. I hit the switch to change back and forth. I am not ever combining the signals. Just switching from electric to upright. No pops, perfect.
