2 shuttle 9.0 to power two 4ohm cabs?

Sign in to disble this ad
Gentlemen, considering running 2 Shuttlemax 9.0 heads to power two 4 ohm cabs with a splitter cable to my Sadowsky. Would give me 900 watts a per head with independent master volumes and tone controls for each cab (accugroove whappo jr. 4 ohms @800 watts and genz benz Uber 212 4 ohms @ 600watts). Have been using an Epifani 902C (900 watts a side) with two 4 ohm cabs (whappo jr, & Epifani 410) with great results.
Tried the Uber 212 I just bought with the 9.0 head and loved it even more. Any downside to doing this?

Plan B would be to go Shuttle max 12.0 or Genz Benz 1200, Any thoughts?

Should work fine. If you didn't want individual EQ control for each cab I'd recommend slaving the second amp from the effects send.

If you want individual eq for each cabinet you will need to split the input signal. This is not a problem with most active basses, or after an effects pedal but some passive basses might get loaded down a bit which may be ok too depending on your tone preferences.

If you can use a common eq, the Shuttles are set up so the if you feed the effects send of the master into the effects return of the slave amp, the second amp receives the pre-master volume signal so the master volume control of the second amp controls the volume of the second cabinet.

Hope this helps.

or (shameless plug) you could buy my Ashdown Little Giant 1000 that has 2 4ohm outs so you wouldn't need a second head or power amp.

Thanks, that helps a lot, input is greatly appreciated. Anxious to give it a whirl. Interesting how certain cabs sound paired with different heads. The Uber 212 with the 9.0is just outstanding to my ears followed closely by the Accugroove Whappo Jr. and the 9.0Together they are fat AND articulate across the entire fretboard. Great time to be a bass player.

I'm not sure what you were referring to but currently, there's no such thing as a ShuttleMax 9.0.

There's a Shuttle 9.0 or a ShuttleMax 12.0. Two different things.

In another thread, there has been some discussion about a possible ShuttleMax 9 or 18 or whatever. The guys from Genz basically stated that they are listening. But they haven't confirmed whether or not they will make such an amp.

I saw that. And I agree, I think it'd be a great product.

But in the OP first post, he mentioned a ShuttleMax 9.0 and powering two 4 ohm cabs. If he was referring to either the Shuttle 9.0 or ShuttleMax 12.0, it would be two different answers.

On the other hand, if he's referring to a potential future product (i.e. ShuttleMax 9.0), I wouldn't hold my breath. While I think GB is a great company, it takes most companies quite a while (6 to 12 months) to release a new product.
