200W bass head on what kind of cab?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been playing for a little while now, need to think about getting something a little bigger than a combo to be able to play in places other than a small room... I'm a total noob with all this amplifier stuff so bear with me.
http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....age?sku=483494 this seems right up my alley but a 200W head seems a bit powerful for a 250 Watt 1X15 cab, I LOVE the acoustic brand so I'm very interested in the head, but would I be better off getting a 2X10 cab like say http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend....orn?sku=423663 to go with it, just in case I need the extra firepower? Thanks!

That amp and cab will work fine together BUT keep in mind the amp puts out 200 watts @ 4 ohms and that cab is 8 ohms, so you'd only be pushing roughly half (100 or so) watts to the cab. If you are playing with a drummer you'd need 2 of those cabs to get the full 200 watts and still may not have enough headroom.
For around that price you should be able to get a solid used peavey head and cab capable of much more power.
example.......right now in the talkbass classifieds there is a Peavey firebass (700 watts at 2 ohms, 475 watts at 4 ohms) for $250.....And someone else is selling a Peavey 2x15 for $150. That would be a cheap, reliable rig that you can use for a long time. It would be loud enough as is but you could still add another cab if you wanted. Plus it gives you something to use that will work until you have the money for the rig you really want.

Just my opinion.....you want an inexpensive, reliable rig that will be loud enough for a drummer.......as long as you don't have back problems look at used peavey amps and cabs
