210 and 410 vs 212 and 412

Am doing some shopping around right now for an amp and cab. Seems to be far more 10's out there than 12's. Is this because most players then add a 15 to help out with the bottom end, and get a broader range covered? 10's just more punchy than 12's? Any information y'all can provide would be great.

Also, as a side comment....There seems to be MANY threads on here where the player either has a GK head or a GK cab or both. I stopped in at a local music store today to find 3 GK amps and 1 cab, and LOTS of every other brand they carry. Things that make you go hmmmmm...

12's are heavier than 10's. Not everyone is okay with added weight when 210's are loud enough. Most 212 cabs are as big (and as heavy) as 410 cabs.

Mixing different sized speakers (hell, even differently tuned cabs of the same speakers) is an invitation for phase issues. You may not hear it, but matching speaker sizes (and same tuned cabs) always bring out the best results.

6 of 12's will be way louder than a 6 of 10's - it's more like on par with 8 of 10's

Mixing heads and cabs is totally fine. Play through all of them, and buy the one that satisfies you the most.
