Which 210 cab to go with 115?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, my first day in the forums...

I have an Ashdown EB-180 1x15 combo which im very pleased with.

180w RMS (300w peak)

22hz-25khz (i think)

Its been in my bedroom since it came out of the box, but i want to practice with a drummer and some other guitarists. Therefore, i want a 2x10 cab to go with it.

Which of these should i get? I have a £200-ish budget.

Hartke 210XL

Ampeg SVT 210

Gallien Krueger 210 BLX

Maybe another 115 will be a better choice? I like a bright sound but I also like that low end rumble.

I play a lot of Green day stuff (half step down), drop D stuff, Blink 182, Paramore, Death cab for cutie, Modest mouse, The Gaslight anthem. No shreddy metal stuff.

Squier Jazz Bass with phase reverse switch.

Ashdown EB-180 15.

Thanks a lot

You should try some searches on cabinets in general, and look at the fEARFUL threads. Get hip to the truth that a given bass cabinet's sound is not mostly determined by the size of the drivers in the box, but by the specific drivers used and how that box is tuned to them, and how the cross-over is designed to work with the driver/box tuning. It's actually pretty complicated but cool to learn about. The shortest answer is to try out all three 2x10 boxes with your setup, play as close to actual gig volume as possible, and see which one you like best, realizing that things will be different with the rest of the band playing along.

Nice, thanks. Will this setup (115+210) be a strong enough setup for practicing with an angry drummer, 2 guitarist and a singer (amped)?

I think you'll be fine with just the 15 for jamming. If not, then add more cab down the road. I use some Crate combo with a 15 in a similar setup (not my amp, just lives in our practice space) and I'm sure the volume hasn't been past half.

Awesome, which 210 out of the above do you recommend? I prefer the GK or Hartke, the Ampeg has bad reviews.

Maybe do some research on the subject of mixing cabs.

There are some definite negatives (soundwise) in combining dissimilar cabs.

Read this informative thread on mixing speaker sizes that I
found right in the FAQ's stickied up there. In particular,
note the responses made by Bill Fitzmaurice, a well respected
TB'er and audio engineer.

What about that?

Same driver as my combo, I think. Even though it can handle 300w and my internal speaker, only 150w.
