A 212 that doesnt fart out on Low D - B ??

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey gang,

While I have been touring quite a bit with my Hydrive 410 and like the overall tone, too often the low B string will fart it out.

I've dug the 212 idea and really liked the very first Epifani the long one that came out, but have not dabbled with 212's since.

I use a Shuttle 9.0 and pretty much run her flat. I might hit the bass boost button. Volume wise..the preamp is on 5 and the master might be as high as 8.

With that in mind I'm sure any 410 I get I'm going to hit cone excursion pretty hard...especially outdoors.

Oh, my main bass is a lakland 55-02 and I run the bass on that around 6 to 7.

Any Uber 212 users or neox212 users out there wanna shed some insight? Only cause my amp is a genzy.

I absolutely love my Uber 212. It's got tons of lows and generally just sounds great. That being said, a 212 will typically put out less overall volume than a similar 410 so a single 212 might not be the answer you're looking for. Now, a pair of Uber 212s and you'll be in pants-flap city.

Hey Mike, I have an Aguilar GS212 that I drive with a Carvin B1500 and it sounds amazing. Let me know if you want to come by and check it out, I'm right around the corner in Calumet City.

Sounds like you just like it loud. Have you thought of doubling up on another 410?

I do like it loud and did talk to Larry Hartke, he did say " Sounds to me like you need more speakers."....while that is true...I hate the thought of lugging another cab.

Argh....

Have you tried the Accugroove Tri210L? That's next on my list.

I've had no complaints with my RS212's, but they do have way more omph when they are paired up or stacked as a 6x12... Played outdoors with and RS210 + 2 x RS212 and I could feel the bass anywhere I went..

You just might need more speakers, or atleast a 6x10

I love my Uber 212, it's my favorite cabinet I've ever played through. It's never farted out on me but then again I can't say I ever needed to push it that hard. I also primarily play 4 string basses.

If you are playing that loud I would vote on adding a second cab.

The GS212 is one of my top three favorite cabs (that I've owned), but I'd take the Uber 212 over it any day.

When I had my gk halfstack, the neo212 was very articulate and gave a very defined B. I had it matched with the 1001rb II head by the way. I suggest you check it out as they aren't very expensive either.

+10

Another awesome 212 is the Mesa PowerHouse 212...a little heavier...a little more expensive than the 50 lb 500 buck GK Neo 212-II but an awesome workhorse.

If you can find a used Dr.Bass 2x12, get one, I only play 5-stringers and it handles the Low B VERY well.

I have the old Epifani t-2-12 - (the side by side one). I have never been able to make it break up at all - I use a Aguilar DB 750, Add I was using a Crown k2 before that

Dont know how the newer neo drivers compare, but 2-12 is a great cabinet cabinet configuration

Actually, when these cabs came out they were considered lightweight and small for the amount of clean sound they put out.

WOW! Lots suggestions! thank you!

PA is supported by the venue, if there is one. I almost never get the chance to do that. Unless I play outdoor festivals then yes I do go thru the house and monitors.

99.95% of my gigs are road gigs, so I have no clue half the time what , if, the pa is gonna be.

Im kinda looking at the NEOX212 ( genz benz ) cause then I could do the Richard Bona thing..minus "the lick" lol, run 2 of those and tilt them too...

I tried the accugroove stuff at namm and whenever Billy gigs I can sit in and use his rig. The tri112 and tri210 was a great sounding very clean and even setup.

never heard the Genz neo cabs, but they get good reviews here.

I used to own a Berg HT 212. You can probably find one used at a decent price. That cab could muscle out a low B string loudly all day long.

I use a Genz Benz NeoX-212T with my ShuttleMax 6.0 and it handles a B string like an absolute champ. Genz Benz + Genz Benz = Rad! So fast, responsive and articulate + stage volume for miles! Highly recommended.
